Deer velvet is the actively growing stage of the stag's antlers. It is called velvet because it is covered in short dense hair which resembles velvet cloth. Velvet Energy capsules are filled with a finely ground powder made from the whole antler.
Deer velvet grows each year on the heads of stags kept on farms in New Zealand. It is this capacity to regenerate, as well as to grow rapidly, which makes deer velvet unique.
History of using Deer Velvet
Deer velvet has been used in the East for over 2000 years, however it is only in recent times that the West have discovered this product. This partly came about by the New Zealand farmers who noticed the extraordinary difference in their old dogs after they had finished harvesting the antlers. the dogs would eat the shavings from the floor and would then be acting like puppies, even to the point where they would be able to jump into the back of the landrover again having had to be lifted in pre-harvest. The farmers then requested that more research should be done. This took place in the early nineties in New Zealand and then trial work was successfully carried out in many other parts of the world.
